Mejja Mtoto wa Khadija Album Listening Party | Captain Morgan Experience at Microbrewery Nairobi

Mejja's Mtoto wa Khadija: Captain Morgan Hosts Album Listening Party at Microbrewery

After 20 years of features, collaborations, and anthems that soundtracked a generation, Mejja releases his first solo album. Captain Morgan held the space for the moment.

Some things cannot be rushed. A debut album after two decades in the industry is one of them.

On Thursday, March 5, Captain Morgan hosted an exclusive listening party for Mejja's debut album Mtoto wa Khadija at Microbrewery, Nairobi, running from 4PM to 10PM. The event was an intimate gathering where guests would be among the first to hear the full album and learn about the journey of making it firsthand from Mejja himself.

The album drops on all platforms at 12AM, March 6, 2026.

The Album

Mtoto wa Khadija.

Son of Khadija.

Mejja unveiled the official album cover and tracklist in early March 2026. The project features club records, soulful vocal tracks, and collaborations with both upcoming and established artists, including Jay Melody.

There is a pattern in Mejja's career that only makes sense looking backward. Jana Kuliendaje proved he could make a hit alone. Then he spent years deliberately building through others. Kansoul with Kid Kora and Madtraxx. Utawezana with Femi One. Cheza Kama Wewe with Trio Mio. Nairobi with Bensoul and Sauti Sol. Feature after feature after feature. Every collaboration was preparation. Every partnership was a form of discipline, a way of sharpening the instrument before playing the solo.

Twenty years of that.

Most artists would have forced an album at year five. Mejja waited. Not because he couldn't, but because the work wasn't finished. The discipline had to come first. The partnerships had to teach him what they were meant to teach. And when the moment arrived where the dream and the discipline finally aligned, the gate opened.

Mtoto wa Khadija is what walks through it.

This is not a collection of singles. This is the album that 20 years of homework earned him the right to make. The son of Khadija, raised in Majengo, who built an entire career on proving he could hold any room, any feature, any beat, any era, now presents the full vision on his own terms.

The timing is not accidental. It never is with the ones who wait.

Two names have shaped Captain Morgan's transformation from a bottle on a shelf into a cultural platform in Kenya.

Kennedy Mutula serves as Head of Mainstream Spirits & Ready-to-Serve (RTS) at Diageo. Victor Adada is Brand Manager for Captain Morgan and Kenya Cane, a 13-year EABL veteran with an MBA from the University of Nairobi.

Under their leadership, Captain Morgan has:

  • Launched the Captain Morgan Muckpit flavour line

  • Executed a six-city nationwide Muckpit tour across Juja, Meru, Kisumu, Mombasa, Bomet, and Nakuru

  • Hosted the Captain's Hangout at Holiday Inn Two Rivers with Mejja and Chef Robert Aluda

  • Partnered with Mejja on his debut album as a Captain Morgan associated release

Choosing to hold the space for a 20-year debut album, in an intimate room, with no pyrotechnics and no spectacle, only the music and the story behind it, tells you everything about where Mutula and Adada are taking this brand. Experience over noise. Substance over flash. The same philosophy Mejja applied to his career, Captain Morgan applied to this evening.

Mejja x Captain Morgan

Mejja renewed his partnership with Captain Morgan for a third consecutive year in September 2025. The album is being released in association with the brand.

Three years is unusual in Kenya's brand ambassador market. Most deals last a campaign cycle. This one has lasted because the partnership mirrors the artist: patient, consistent, and rooted in something real.

When signing the renewal, Mejja said: "Captain Morgan feels like family to me. This partnership has always been about connecting with my fans in fun, real, and memorable ways."

What's Next

Mejja has announced a nationwide tour to promote Mtoto wa Khadija, powered by Captain Morgan.

The discipline built the catalog. The dream built the album. Now the road carries it to every city.
