Africa's meetings and conventions landscape is sitting on a $3.6 trillion global industry, and the continent is finally mobilizing to claim its share.

Following a high-powered stakeholder briefing in Nairobi, the Africa MICE Summit has officially unveiled its aggressive 2026 blueprint. Set to take place on October 1-2, 2026, at the Tembo International Convention Centre in Mombasa, the Summit is shifting the continent's narrative from simply networking to driving hard infrastructure investment, empirical data ownership, and human capital development.

Under the official theme "Building Africa's Business Events Ecosystem for Trade, Investment and Innovation," the summit is issuing a direct call to action to public and private sector leaders: the gap in our market is not a weakness; it is an immense investment opportunity.

The Vision: 100 Million Delegates & The MICE Economy

A primary goal of the 2026 Summit is to establish empirical, locally-owned industry data so Africa is no longer reliant on external reporting. The leadership has set a bold target: bringing 100 million Africans into the MICE industry fold by 2027 and 2028.

To achieve this, the sector must rethink the delegate experience. The Summit's strategy focuses on maximizing the direct spending ecosystem - urging destinations, infrastructure developers, and investors to optimize room nights, nightlife, dining, shopping, and beyond.

Bridging the Skills Gap: SITE & ICCA Masterclasses

Recognizing a critical human capital deficit, the Summit is investing heavily in the next generation of industry leaders. On September 29-30, 2026, prior to the main summit, organizers will host exclusive Pre-Summit Masterclasses in partnership with global associations.

Strictly limited to 50 participants per class, these sessions are designed to move African teams from merely bidding to actively winning global business:

  • SITE Masterclass (Incentive Planning):

    • Who Should Attend: Incentive planners, corporate reward teams, DMCs, and supplier partners.

    • Outcomes: Design memorable programs, build engaging itineraries, and master complex incentive logistics.

  • ICCA Masterclass (Bidding for International Events):

    • Who Should Attend: DMOs, CVBs, PCOs, venues, hotels, and destination agencies.

    • Outcomes: Build competitive bid strategies, align stakeholders, and secure international association conventions.

The Africa MICE Marketplace & Regional Awards

For the main summit on October 1-2, the traditional exhibition format is being overhauled into the Africa MICE Marketplace. This new setup will feature dedicated national pavilions, allowing destinations to dynamically showcase their capabilities to 60 targeted, qualified buyers.

Additionally, the Africa MICE Awards are officially open, profiling excellence across 60 distinct categories spanning venues, connectivity, talent, and regional best-in-class operations across Northwest, East, and Southern Africa.
